The Hellenic Community School of Calgary was first established in 1963 to teach, preserve and promote the Greek language to children of Greek descent. Maintaining our Hellenic language and culture is just as important to our community today as it was back then. Making sure our future generations know about the immense accomplishments and contributions that their ancestors made to the world at large is fundamental to creating pride in our Hellenic heritage. Building a connection to our language, our customs and our community is what makes our Hellenic community grow. A key component of helping to build that connection is our Greek Community School.

 

The school offers classes for children from Preschool to level 6, and Greek Language and Culture 15, 25, &35 for students who want to advance their Greek and obtain credits for their high school matriculation.

 

Preschool

 

Preschool:

  1. Monday mornings (ages 3 – 4) from 9:30a.m. – 11:30a.m.  OR
  2. Tuesday afternoons ( ages 4- 5) from 12:30p.m. – 2:30am.

 

Kindergarden – Level 6

 

Kindergarten to level 6:

  1. Wednesday 5:30p.m. – 8:00p.m.  OR
  2. Saturdays 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

 

Greek  15, 25, 35

 

Greek Language and Culture 15, 25, 35:

Classes for Adults

Beginner Greek

It will be an introduction to the Greek alphabet, commonly used vocabulary, daily expressions, minimal grammar and conversational Greek.

  • Fall Session: Begins Tuesday September 27th and ends December 13th
  • OR Begins Wednesday September 28nd and ends December 14th

Intermediate Greek 1

This course is for those who took the Beginner Greek course or for those who know a little Greek and would like to take that next step into a deeper look at the sentence structure, vocabulary, reading & writing and conversational Greek.

  • Winter Session: Begins Tuesday January 10th and ends April 3th
  • OR Begins Wednesday January 11th and ends April 4th

Intermediate Greek 2

This course is for those who already speak some Greek but who want to improve their Greek speaking, reading and writing. This course will cover basic grammar and then more complex grammar to gain a better understanding of how to speak Greek correctly.

This course will be dependent on enrolment and teacher availability. You will need to contact the school to make arrangements. Once you have contacted us then we can arrange dates and times with you.

*If anyone is interested in taking any of these courses at a different time than they are offered, for example the intermediate 1 course in the fall, or the beginner course in the winter, please contact us. If there are enough students interested, we may be able to accommodate you by offering a class in the fall or winter session. We would confirm the course one week prior to the start of classes.

The price for each course is $360 including GST.    (This includes our text book and workbook)

 

If you have already purchased our text book then the price is $325 for each course.
